solar farm grant

my investment property

my investment property

Hi,my name is Jelani. I have 40 acres of land out in West Texas.

As we all know, the sun is the strongest down here in the south. I want to potentially build a solar farm on 20 acres of it. There is a small town on the outskirts of my property called Sierra Blanca.

I can hook my solar farm to the grid and provide clean electricity to the town. I want to know how I can obtain a grant to do that.

Thank you for your time.

The American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (2009) has enabled expenditure of $467 million to expand and accelerate the development, deployment, and use of geothermal and solar energy throughout the United States.

We are not aware of direct grant schemes such as you need. You would think it is an incentive that's around the corner with the green economic stimulus going on.

Here's one initiative, announced by the Office of Energy Efficiency And Renewable Energy that may help you:

Solar Energy Deployment ($40.5 Million)

Projects in this area will focus on non-technical barriers to solar energy deployment, including grid connection, market barriers to solar energy adoption in cities, and the shortage of trained solar energy installers. Combined with new technology development, these deployment activities will help clear the path for wider adoption of solar energy in residential, commercial, and municipal environments.

Here are some resources to find your way towards one.

Check out the DSIRE Database on State rebates, grants and incentives for Texas and the Federal database here

The American Solar Energy Society American Solar Energy Society.

It doesm't look like your project has an agricultural component but here's a link to the National Sustainable Agriculture Information Service. Their advice includes funding.

Hope this helps.
