Weatherization Assistance Program
by: Anonymous

The WAP program DOES NOT give out grant money; AT ALL. All work performed on a home is based on an energy audit which is then entered into a computer system which tells auditors how much money can be spend in a home up to $ 6,500. per home. In most cases, work is performed by in house crews, with some work sub-contracted out, ie: boiler replacements.
There seems to be a lot of misinformation out there by persons who do not work for weatherization that are making false claims about the program. Every county in every state has a weatherization office. Contact your local office and get the correct information. Weatherization works!

The stimulus package dramatically increased the amount of money that is available for weatherization for individual families -- up to $6500 -- and also increased the number of families who will be eligible. You can get more details, including links to your particular state, at http://governmentgrantreporter.blogspot.com/2009/03/almost-8-billion-for-weatherization-in.html.

Weatherization contacts

You may want to go to the following link and talk to the State Agency responsible for administering the DOE Weatherization grant in your state. The State Agency can also direct you to the local CAP agencies administering the programs at the local level.
